Frameport

About Frameport

What it is, what it costs and where it runs.

Is Frameport free?

Yes. Frameport is free on Google Play. The iPhone version is in App Store review now.

Which phones does it work on?

Android 7.0 or later, from Google Play. The iPhone and iPad app needs iOS or iPadOS 17 or later, and is in App Store review.

Do I need my own Immich server?

Yes. You need an Immich v3 server you run or have permission to use. Immich is the only supported destination for now.

How is this different from the official Immich app?

The official Immich app is a full client: it can view, search, download, edit, share and delete everything in your library. Frameport does one job. It uploads new photos and videos and can't see anything already on your server. Keep using Immich on the web or desktop to enjoy your collection. See the comparison.

Is Frameport part of Immich?

No. Frameport is made by Vexon Group LTD. Immich is an independent open-source project, and Frameport isn't affiliated with or endorsed by it.

Connecting to Immich

Server versions, keys and home networks.

Which version of Immich do I need?

Immich v3. Frameport checks the server's version when you connect and stops with “This server is not a supported Immich v3 server” on anything else.

On Android, signing in with your email and password or single sign-on needs Immich 3.2 or later. On older v3 servers, connect with an API key instead.

What permission does the API key need?

Only asset.upload. Frameport uses it to upload files and to ask your server which files it already has. It doesn't need any read, download or delete permission.

The iPhone app refuses keys with more access than that. On Android, the optional album organisation also needs album.create, albumAsset.create and asset.share.

Is it safe to sign in with my Immich password?

Your email and password, or single sign-on, are used once to create an upload-only key for Frameport, then discarded. Only that narrow key is kept, in the Android Keystore or iOS Keychain.

Can I use a server on my home network without HTTPS?

Yes, but only to a private-network address, and only after you confirm it. Frameport never disables certificate checks for HTTPS.

  • Android: use a private address or local hostname and confirm “Use an unencrypted LAN connection?”. You can also save a home network address next to your public HTTPS one.
  • iPhone: use a private IP address such as http://192.168.1.20:2283 and turn on “Allow HTTP to a trusted local IP address”. Hostnames must use HTTPS.
My Immich is behind a reverse proxy on a sub-path. Does that work?

On Android, yes: enter the full address including the path, for example https://example.net/immich. The iPhone app needs Immich at the root of its address (an /api suffix is fine).

Backups

What gets uploaded, and when.

Will my photos be compressed?

No. Files are uploaded as originals, with no resizing, recompression or metadata changes. Location data stays in the file.

Will it upload photos my server already has?

No. Before uploading, Frameport sends your server a checksum of each file and skips anything it already has. Those show as already on your server.

When does automatic backup run?
  • Android: shortly after new photos or videos appear, with a check every few hours as a safety net. Your cellular, charging, capture-delay, hours and battery settings apply. Backing up yourself is never limited by hours or battery.
  • iPhone: iOS decides when background backup runs. It needs Background App Refresh on, and stops if you force-quit Frameport until you open it again. For the fastest progress, keep Frameport open.
Are original file names kept?

Yes, by default. On Android you can switch off “Keep original file names” in Settings, and files are then uploaded under a generated name instead.

Does deleting a photo on my phone delete it from Immich?

No. Frameport never changes or deletes anything on your server. On Android, the optional “Free up space” can remove phone copies your server has already confirmed, through Android's own confirmation and trash.

Privacy and security

What Frameport can see, and what it keeps.

Can Frameport see or delete my existing photos?

No. Frameport can't browse, download, search, edit, share or delete anything in your Immich library. With an upload-only API key, your server would refuse it anyway.

Does Frameport collect any data?

There's no Frameport account, no developer-run cloud storage and no analytics. Your media goes straight from your phone to your server. Read the full privacy policy.

How do I stop Frameport accessing my server?

Delete its key in Immich under Account settings › API keys. Disconnecting the server in Frameport also removes the saved key from your phone.

Frameport can prepare one when you ask. Credentials, addresses, file names and locations are removed, and you can read all of it before choosing where to share it. Nothing is sent automatically.
